I purchased an 8 GB Corsair drive in 2007. It has the thick rubber coating. It worked quite well for over a year. I did not do a lot of heavy use, but maybe three times a month I used it. Speed was adequate it seemed. Some USB slots it would not fit into because the rubber is too thick. I carried it in my pocket all the time. After about 14 months it suddenly stopped working. Dead. The computer tells me to reformat it, but I have chosen not to destroy the data in case some day I figure out how to get it off. I will purchase another brand to replace it.

I never had the need for a USB drive until a few months ago, so my first foray into the field was with the 16GB Voyager. I have been very satisfied. Not much to say since it's such a simple product: I carry this with me almost every day, and it has proven durable and useful. Haven't dunked it in water or anything, but it has been stepped on, dropped, and thrown across a room many a time with no ill effects. It has shown up on every computer into which I've plugged it (XP, Vista, Windows 7 RC, OS X Leopard) and speeds are comparable or better than I expected. I've seen stats on transfer speeds that say it's faster than most, and I'd believe it. Write speeds are significantly lower than read speeds, just like pretty much every other flash drive. If you really need the performance, get a Corsair 16 GB Flash Voyager GT. No problems fitting it into slots, even on my home server, but they include a USB extender in case you have issues or don't have a convenient slot handy. The rubber exterior can make it hard to put into some pockets (doesn't slide easily against fabric), but it stays in nicely. Loop in rubber body allows it to be put on a keyring. Cap is very tight; no worries about it coming off. Will probably be buying a larger capacity version and giving this one to my wife at some point. If you're looking for something a little smaller, check out the Mini line of Voyagers: Corsair Flash Voyager Mini 16GB.

I've ordered several of this brand of flash drive over the past 2 years and they are always durable and reliable. It has a nice rubberized exterior to protect it. It would be nice if there were a better way to cap it since it's always possible to lose that separate piece, but other than that I have nothing but great things to say about this product. Only once did I have a faulty one and it was promptly replaced.
