I installed this on a Windows 2000 server. However, when backing up data onto firewire resources I continue to get many read-write errors. After allot of research and configuration, ruling out other problems,I am left to believe that it is a problem with this card.

I am using the card in one of my Windows 2003 servers and found the drivers difficult to install and somewhat out of date so I did some research and found newer drivers for the original manufacture that work fine but are not listed as supporting 2003 server. Do your research first. You may need to spend more money and get an adapter with better driver support.

I purchased this to drive an M-Audio Firewire system. It worked for about a week, then went flakey. On reboots, it would look fine, but nothing plugged into it could be seen by their respective drivers. I must have rebooted the PC 20 times trying to figure out where the problem was. I reinstalled the driver at least 3 times, along with the drivers for the M-Audio device. The error I get on the M-Audio driver is #10, driver not started. Same happens when I attach a Sony Video camera--it can't be seen by the software. Clearly, something in the middle is broken. M-Audio strongly advises users not to Hot Plug their products on Firewire, as it can kill one or both of the devices, even though the standard is explicitly designed for such hot plugging. Apparently, that is what happend. In all the experimenting, powering up the M-Audio after the boot was completed would at least trigger something, at least at first. I'd return it if I still had the box....
