Five stars is an understatement! It performed flawlessly installing the Nero software and backing up the eRecovery system files and driver/apps on 2+1 DVD+R discs! The Nero 8 Essentials software has the Lightscribe software integrated in the CoverDesiger function. The unit is compatible with a long list of DVD and CD disc formats. Not only is this unit a burner, it's also a DVD player. This version of Nero 8 also includes Nero Showtime 4 which plays retail DVD's without any additional drivers or plug-ins. This slim external unit also comes with a carrying case, USB cable, AC adapter, and the Nero 8 software disc. Please visit Apricorn's website for more details on this EZ Writer LS.

This is a great little DVD/CD reader/writer drive. Mine worked fine right out of the box, no software installation required. It will run on USB power alone OR if you'd like, it ALSO has an regular AC cord. I haven't used the AC cord, but it's nice to know that I have it just in case... It also comes with a nice black pouch to store/transport and protect it and a SHORT USB cord (but functional). Good stuff. I had my own full version of Nero 8 Software so I didn't use the included software to burn DVD/CDs. It worked great with my software. The unit is slim (about an inch high) and doesn't weigh much (12 oz). I've used it with my Acer Aspire One (Windows XP) on USB power and it works like a charm! No need for an extra A/C adapter since it's completely powered by the USB, even when the Acer is on battery! (I installed some software from a DVD on my Aspire One during a power outage and everything worked great.) I'm taking this on my trips for when I really need to access a DVD (with my Aspire) or if I want to burn a backup CD or DVD. This is great! My tray drawer lines up and closes perfectly fine and the unit looks good as far as being study... it's not metal, I wouldn't step on it, but the plastic looks good and seems solid enough for me. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase and recommend it especially with an Acer Aspire One.

Problem 1-it is not technically mac compatible. i called the service center, and they weren't sure either. the lightscribe print-on-disc feature (seems very cool) doesn't work. Problem 2-the disc tray doesn't close right. the whole drive seems cheap. Problem 3-for a couple days it worked great, but not anymore. i have wasted 12 discs trying to find the magic combination of settings to get it to work...nada. Problem 4-for a total of 21 discs, 9 were usable.
