Upgraded from Crossfire'd X1800XT's = WOW!!!!
I have been running dual X1800XT's for a while now, and was pleased with the performance. Newer games seemed to be choking up the cards lately, and once the HD 3870 series hit with such a low price (compared to the 400-500 dollar X1800's), I couldn't pass up the chance. Running Vista Ultimate x64 with 4GB of DDR2-800 on a P5K Premium and Q6600 @ 3.0. Dual X18's ran about 7500 in 3dmark06, and a single HD 3870 pulled off 11,500 (untweaked Vista). Games like COD4, Hellgate, Crysis, and Timeshift bow down to this card. 1680x1050 with vertical sync enabled, I managed to hit the limit on all of the games except COD4 (which averaged 45-50 fps).
Pros: Quiet reference cooler. Single 6-pin power (versus dual 8-pin on HD 2900 series), bridge based crossfire (no exterior dongle like the X1800 series), highly overclockable, latest DX10 and shader models. Vista and this card get along PERFECTLY. Installation was simple.
Cons: No bundled software, low texture fill rate (due to low texture units) versus comparable 8800GT.
