207 Network Camera

   The Axis 0235-004 Network Camera is the best camera I've ever tested. I can't say enough good things about this camera. I've tried other, less expensive cameras, and have always been disappointed with them, both operational-wise and software-wise. Other cheap cameras (Gadspot comes to mind), lock up after a day or so, have a grainy quality to the image, and sometimes the colors and hue are off. This Axis camera has NEVER locked up (probably due to the built-in Linux operating system), has a great quality picture, even in near-darkness. Some people complain that the focus ring on the camera breaks off. I have never had to touch the focus ring, so I haven't experienced that problem. This is a small network camera that does amazing things, including encoding both JPEG video and MPEG4 video. You can even have it automatically upload a photo to an FTP server if it detects movement. This camera is inside my garage window, between the mini-blinds and the glass, so you can see the mini-blind reflection in the picture, sorry. The camera isn't water-proof, so I didn't want to put it outside. But you can see the quality there. It makes a great addition to a home alarm system.

   I have purchased quite a few Axis products and have never had to use them for support. I recently went to upgrade the firmware and the firmware update bricked the camera. I went to Axis for support and they essentially were useless. Even though all indications were ok for the firmware upgrade the camera was no longer working (the camera worked 100% before). I contacted Axis for troubleshooting on the issue and they did not read the steps I went through before contacting them; i.e., they didn't bother to take the time to even read the trouble ticket before responding. Their response? reboot/reset to factory settings. I replied I had done that and they replied they could no longer assist me because I bought the camera too long ago. Well, Axis still supports the camera version on their website by issuing patches and firmware. However, apparently, if you use them, you use them at your own peril. They will provide zero support if anything goes wrong applying "their" firmware patch to fix bugs they initially had in their product. Axis makes a good camera, but if it breaks, count on just purchasing another one; and never, never apply any firmware or software upgrades if the camera is in working order.

   Just ordered another Axis 207 camera to add to our 25 camera security system. Have not had any issues with these cameras in the two years of service. These cameras are good in low light and offer a good wide angle picture. I noticed they have updated the firmware on the last few we purchased. A few more picture settings and control over network functions (bandwidth, FTP, etc) Much better than the couple Axis 206 cameras we have.
