I bought this external USB floppy drive so that I could access data on a number of old 3.5 floppy disks that we had floating around. The unit works like a charm, you simply plug the USB cable in, load the drivers (or in the case of Vista at least, let the OS load them for you), put in your floppy, and away you go. I had my unit up and reading data in less than five minutes. No power cord is necessary as the unit runs off of the USB port. Comes with two different interchangeable faceplates, "Midnight Black" and "Pearl White", so you get some cool form to go with your functionality. You get 2X speed, as well, so you're not waiting too long to get to your old stuff. Gotta recommend it highly, especially if you're like me and you have a lot of old data stored on 3.5's.

Good product. Works well on windows 2000 & XP. No problem setting up for Windows 2000 and auto setup for XP. Recommend the Sony External USB Floppy Drive (MPF88E/UA/181) if you don't have a floppy drive.

SONY Xternal USB Floppy Drive MPF88E works for everything - except what we bought it for. It won't download hard disk drivers when trying to reinstall/fix WINDOWS XP. We had to borrow another drive that did work. Other than that, no problem. Arrived well packaged and on-time.

My newest computer arrived with no floppy drive. Since I needed one in order to access some old programs I searched the Internet. Many drives are available, but I chose the Iomega since I have had excellent results with their products in the past. I was not disappointed. The drive installed with no problem. Vista immediately recognized it and assigned it a drive letter and I was off and running. A word of warning - Don't leave a floppy disk in the drive when you log off since on start-up the BIOS expects the system will be loaded from the floppy and waits for input as to what you wish to do. I have used this drive flawlessly for over a month with no problems.

Excellent product. Easy to setup and install driver software. Ruggedly built hardware and cable. Already outlasted two I owned previously by different manufacturers.

I bought this floppy drive because I have a new Mac G5 who doesn't have a floppy drive built in it.The drive was very easy to install (at least on a Mac). You just have to plug the USB cable into your computer and wait fo the drive to appear on your Desktop. There was no need of CDs or downloads or any kind of installation. The only problem that I encountered was that It took a few minutes for the drive to appear in my computer. Every time I poped a floppy drive I had to wait exactly 1 minute for the disk to appear. And also when I opened a document inside my floppy it took forever for the document to open.I don't know how fast are any other floppy drives out there, but I found this one extremly slow.If you are going to buy this product just for transporting documents from one computer to another, maybe you should just use e-mails...

It not only works perfect, but is built to match my iMac. Great product.

The LaCie floppy drive has been used to move a lot of pictures in jpg format to our computer hard drive and it hasn't had a problem. It's compact, reliable and has taken care of our needs very well.

I wish there was a no-star option. I used this on a Mac PowerBook G4. The unit made some whirring noises -- and that was it. It was never recognized by my computer.

Specs did not disclose that this floppy drive is not recognized by Mac OS 10.5.X. When plugged in, the drive will appear in Desktop and Finder as an "untitled" drive. However, it is not specifically recognized as a "floppy drive." The manufacturer's support department failed to respond to emailed request for assistance (driver available?) to fix the problem. Buyer beware.

These things still aren't obsolete anymore. Our company hasn't made the switch to Vista, despite PC manufacturers pretty much dropping XP offerings at this point. I recently received a new laptop pre-loaded with Vista. The mass-storage drivers were designed for Vista and XP had no idea what they were. Enter the TEAC USB floppy drive. Unlike a USB thumb drive, the USB floppy is "seen" within XP setup as a normal floppy drive (therefore I was able to load drivers from there). The item was a great price, and was shipped very quickly. We've used the unit on more than one occasion since then to retrieve data from the never-say-die floppies.

Various colored face plates and Sony quality [plus price] made this an attractive add on drive. If it doesn't have the color face plate you want, paint it. Installed easily with exsisting extra power supply plug and on the ribbon cable as a "slave" removeable drive with the CD as prime. Screws? Go bum a couple from a PC repair shop or take one from the CD or HD drive, with just one screw "things" still arn't going anywhere

As with all Sony computer peripheral products I have used in the past, this item has met the same high standards and functionality. I highly recommend Sony over other manufacturers for reliability and quality.

The Floppy Disk was just perfect. I had no problems at all installing it and it worked perfect on the very first try. It took me no more than five minutes to install and check the unit out. The complete discription of the floppy drive given made me confident that it was the correct unit for me. The price was right and I received the unit right on time.
