We have an old HP Laserjet 2100 which has the parallel cable. Just bought a new laptop which doesn't have a parallel port to connect to. We considered going wireless but after looking at several devices, decided to try Sabrent USB to DB25 Female Parallel Converter Adapter Cable instead. I read other reviews here prior to making purchase and was somewhat skeptical if it would work or not. Let me tell you this was the easiest thing to install. I printed a test page within 2-3 minutes of connecting the cable to both printer and laptop. As soon as I turned on the printer, the laptop started loading the driver. When we added the printer to my laptop, we got stumped for a minute when we had to choose the port. Be sure to choose the virtual usb port. My laptop is running Windows Vista (64-bit). We would definitely recommend this product as an inexpensive printer solution!

After using this cable to connect an older Lexmark S2455 to a new Acer laptop running Vista Home, I did have to go through the steps of adding a local printer. I selected the correct printer driver, and presto! Works great.

I recently bought a new iMac and my wife has a Dell laptop, neither of which has a parallel port. Both machines can only print using USB, so my old HP 1100A sits just collecting dust while I've tried to find a solution. HP and Best Buy both said I was out of luck with no cable to connect USB to this type of printer and I should junk it. Most new laser jets don't work as well as my old one so I've been searching for a fix for 6 months now. I found this cable on Amazon and thought it would solve my problem. Well it did for about 6 weeks and then mysteriously just stopped working. There is no way to troubleshoot it, no documentation, and the 2" installation CD does not work in the iMac. It also stopped working on the Dell laptop at the same time. I would definitely recommend NOT wasting your money on this item. I'm going to try the following item instead - Cables To Go 16899 6 Feet Usb To Db25 Ieee Parallel Printer Adapter Good luck!
