I have to start by saying I love the concept of UMPCs. The idea of not carrying around my heavy laptop is wonderful. But the the Samsung Q1 is not a 100% replacement. I have had my UMPC for about 6 months now and have learned to avoid the pitfalls. I have had both the original and the Ultra Q1 and have to say the Ultra is far better. The reason is that the Ultra has the keyboard. Other reviewers have commented on its size. It does take some getting use to but not too much. I have manly sized fingers and I can enter text fairly accurately on it. The problem however is I like to use it in low light situations (in bed while my wife sleeps). On a laptop I have the keys memorized and can type without much light - can't do that on this keyboard without a lot more practice. The other nice thing is the mouse buttons. This is very helpful when your calibration is off and you want to get to the start menu. It is also more precise than my finger. The downside is that the mouse movement is slow, but that also aids the accuracy so you don't overshoot. The display is bright and very readable. The resolution is ok. The Ultra is much better than the original and worth the money. However, even with the increase in resolution I still have some applications that don't quite fit on the screen, hence part of my reason for a lower score. The other reason I lowered the score to 4 was that the processor in the Ultra is just not fast enough. I have my system dual booting with XP and Vista. Vista is a hog but the tablet feature are much better than XP. However, if I watch movies in either XP or Vista - forget it. This was the other reason for a 4 star rate. I have removed as many services from the OS but still there is a lag. The battery life is good. I did prefer the stand in the original model since it had two settings as opposed to the Ultra only having one setting. No that big of a deal. Overall, I think the Ultra is a great tool. It will not replace a laptop but it is much better to have on a plane than a laptop for reading and some applications.

I got this to use as an ebook reader. It will load the software for most ebook formats. Great for use on the subway. I also use the wifi feature, and get on the internet with it also. Good for taking meeting notes with the pen, and can attach a full sized keyboard with USB. Just right when you need something more than a PDA, but don't need the larger screen of a laptop.

Screen intermittant right out of box-- twist the case a little and would come on and off-- finally started to work-- alas-- 2 weeks later completely laid down-- no screen output--( sent it back and got my money back) mighty expensive tablet to fail outof box--- look for extended warranty if you just got to have size-- p.s. the joy stick entry is useless--- if your going to type on it you need the keyboard --- you can get it and case bundled for about 75.00-- its a must. *** CHECK OUT THE SCREEN WHEN YOU FIRST GET IT-- BE SURE ITS NOT INTERMITTANT!****
