Yes, I'll admit, it was a pain setting this up. Here's the explanation: It IS plug&play, all you have to do is plug in the first box into your router, and then the second box into another outlet anywhere in your house (and it DOES work on a power strip and a transformer), I know because I use this product in Germany. However, the plug&play does NOT give you a secured connection. It simply sets up an unsecured network entitled "NETGEAR". If this is all you need, great, you're done. But, to secure the network is another thing. How to SECURE the network (after you have the unsecured NETGEAR network running from the range extender). Rather than do what the instructions (which are limited) tell you and change your static IP to match that of the range extender, blah blah blah, this is what you must do. Look at your main internet/wireless router. Good. Now, find its IP address, it will be something like [...]. Now, plug that in to your web browser as [...]You should now be on the web page for your MAIN ROUTER. Once there, look on the left column and find the link that gets you to all of the devices connected to your network. Find your wireless range extender on this list. You will see its IP address glowing and smiling at you. All you have to do is copy that, and paste it after http:// in your browser and wuala. You are now on the page for your range extendor. From here, you can do anything you need, including changing the name and securing your lovely new network.

I purchased the product to extended the range of my wifi especially when doors are closed. As a range extender it worked great but the product description says speed is 54 mps, but that is the speed of the wireless unit, the speed is actually 14 mps max due to the router until that is connected to your router. I needed more speed than that so I exchanged for the a/c wired 200 mps units which nets out to 80 mps at the receiving unit.

Not a good product. The fourth unit I have purchased, and it is dead, too. They don't last long. Too pricey for the life of the product. Tossed transmitter and receiver and bought Hawkings range extender. Much better.
