I bought this item to replace a jury-rigged stand I had built to provide a slight tilt to the keyboard on my Lenovo T61, which is plugged into a Lenovo ThinkPad Advanced Mini-Dock - port replicator ( 250410U ). My solution worked, but I wanted something sturdier that would also guarantee that my laptop and dock would never slide off onto the floor someday. This stand is definitely sturdy. It weighs about 10 pounds, and that, plus the four, large rubber feet on the bottom ensure it's not going anywhere. It even survived unscathed a two-foot accidental drop to the floor while I was unpacking it. I, too, found the picture-only instructions a little confusing at first, because they actually cover two scenarios: using the stand with just a laptop, or with a laptop plugged into a dock. I tried it both ways. The stand itself can be set at four different angles: 0, 30, 45, and 60 degrees. There are two 4-1/2-inch handles on the underside that--when simultaneously pulled outwards--allow the angle to be changed. Without using a dock, you just set the laptop down on the stand. A one-inch high lip along the front edge keeps the laptop in place. When using a dock, you first attach the dock to the stand, then plug the laptop into the dock. There are three attachment points, two along the front edge and a third engages the bottom of the dock toward the back. This latter point didn't always engage, but that didn't prevent the dock from setting on the stand. Unfortunately, the stand elevates the laptop's keyboard a minimum of an additional three inches, which makes it too high for my seating arrangement. Additionally, when using the stand with a dock, the laptop sits back an extra 1-1/4 inches, placing the keyboard even further out of reach. At the end of the first day of use, I noticed my forearms were noticeably more tired. I also found my laptop's display to be a little too high when on the stand. If your work area can be adjusted (raising the chair further, and/or lowering the table), this stand would probably work well. Otherwise, you may find yourself thinking about returning it, as I did.

You have to look at picture 1, in the two circle pictures at the very top (step 1). There are 2 levers underneath (in between) the unit. Pull these outwards, and it opens. Review: Awesome product which, when used with the port replicator, makes for a near perfect desktop environment for your Lenovo laptop. Some also use this for a multi-monitor environment as well. The best thing is when it is used with a Tablet PC (X41, X60, X61, etc.) this adjustable stand allows you to move the Tablet monitor into 'exact' viewing angles never before achieved on the standard notebook/laptop.

We just got this notebook stand but we were not able to open it. The instructions have no written words, only pictures. The stand was supposed to open like a book but it does not. We tried every movement and nothing and there is nothing in the web site either. Maybe one of you, guys, could help? :)
