I purchased this VP950 to replace a failing VP930, since the VP930 is no longer available. I use several VP930 in a multi-display mode, and have been extremely happy with the quality and consistency of the picture. The VP950 however, does not live up to the expectations of its predecessor. While the picture is brighter, it is not consistent; there are noticeable "hot spots" over the screen. The top right is more red than the bottom, which is more blue. And moving your eyes off of center causes the colors to change. This was not the case with the VP930, which gave a very consistent white. This problem can be most disconcerting when looking at a white screen as the case in looking at documents. I've tried all the different color settings but none correct these problems. Looking at this screen is like looking at an old CRT

My wife used an earlier 19inch ViewSonic monitor for her PC. I needed a display for a G4 PowerPC Tower Mac that I still have because it runs OS9 in addition to OSX. I decided to try a ViewSonic because of the good life we've gotten from the other ViewSonic we have. I wanted a 19inch, 1280 x 1024 monitor of standard aspect ratio (NOT wide screen) monitor. Also wanted an anti-glare monitor and NOT a glossy monitor. The VP950B works quite well ... sharp colors. I particularly like the physical adjustments of the monitor: it tilts and moves up and down.

I received a VP950b as a replacement for one of my VP930b's. I bought the 930's because of their reputation as a good photo editing flat screen monitor. And they are pretty good for the price, when compared to other monitors by Lacie or Eizo. However this VP950 is a completely different monitor. The white point runs more to the red than the green tint of the VP930, the contrast seams better on the 950, but banding was noticeable along gradients in my test calibration photo. These things can be adjusted using the monitor's controls, but I have yet to get the VP950 as accurate as the 930 in color while keeping shadow and highlight detail. The worst problem with the VP950b is the varying degree of brightness across the area of the panel. This inconsistency cannot be corrected with any adjustments and it greatly effects the monitor's use for photo editing. That alone keeps me from recommending this monitor, however I must note that the PerfectSuite calibration software provided would not work for the VP950b. In the past I had used this software when both of my monitors were VP930b's. It worked great, but even after working with Portrait Dislays (the company who own's the software) tech support for several weeks, I could not get the software to work with the VP950 and thus could not calibrate the monitor as accurately as I should have been. Not that any calibration would compensate for one corner of the screen being brighter than the others. All in all, I cannot see why this monitor is in the Professional Series by Viewsonic. It seams like just another run of the mill monitor, and you could probably find one just as good for less money.
